Carrie Ann Baade's solo show, "Intemperance", at Billy Shire Fine Arts Binnorie Arts

"Intemperance", at Billy Shire Fine Arts from June 13 - July 4, 2009. Carrie Ann Baade is a great artist and I am proud to say I have shown with her a couple of times in NYC. She paints using the same traditional materials as I do but she goes one step further and paints on copper. Many of the Norther Renaissance artists used copper because it would not expand or contract like wood does. These paintings last forever and if you see one in a museum it is usually in perfect condition.

Each image on the BSFA (Billy Shire Fine Arts) site has prices and a write up on the symbolism and the meaning of each work.

Carrie Ann Baade has a nice site and also an Etsy page where you can buy nice prints really cheap!!

Movie time!

Here are two videos of my hand paintings. The first one is during the underpainting stage when I was painting in only black and white. The studio light was making everything orange so I filmed in b/w mode. Sorry it's dark. Youtube seems to make things darker than usual for some reason.

This second video is of all three paintings that I am finishing up. You get a good look at my skull and crossbones painting "Memento Mori".

three new works just waiting to be finished off!

Here is a sneak peak of a few new paintings I am just about to finish off. I will be sending these to La Luz de Jesus Gallery in LA. I'm part of a four person show in August. I'll be shipping about 14 works for this show. It's a great mix of drawings and paintings!

These pics are from the first few layers of each work. I am just finishing these guys off now and will post more soon.

I already have one more involved image I am just about to start transferring onto a panel, and plans for at least one other. Can't talk about those right now...

The EYE

Friend of mine Sarah Brueck is a jewelry artist and is going to make a collar (i think) out of this painting. This is almost ready for me to start adding color. I have worked on it some since taking this. This stage is called the "underpainting".

gettin' busy

I've been away from the blog lately because I have been working on some new ideas for some upcoming shows. My priority right now is getting ready for a new show in LA. I have just showed my Sacred Heart painting at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in their annual show called"Everything But the Kitschen Sync". (see prior blog) The painting sold and it generated a second sale from someone that googled me after the show.

I was just contacted by Billy Shire, the owner of the gallery and he asked me if I would be interested in a second show in August. He told me that it would be a more concentrated show of the best from the Kitschen Sync show. There will be four of us of the 109 artists that participated!! Needless to say I am psyched! Of course the group show was a milestone for me because this is a major gallery for my type of work. And now to be part of the top % of that group is beyond my expectations.

" La Luz de Jesus Gallery was established in 1986 in Los Angeles, California as the brainchild of entrepreneur and art collector Billy Shire. Shire is considered largely responsible for fostering a new school of art in Los Angeles prompting JUXTAPOZ Magazine to dub him "the Peggy Guggenheim of Lowbrow.

La Luz de Jesus showcases mainly figurative, narrative paintings, and unusual sculpture. The exhibitions are considered post-pop; the art content ranges from folk to outsider to religious to sexually deviant. The gallery's main objective is to bring underground artists and counter culture to the masses.

Some of the past shows have been groundbreaking, introducing unknown artists who have become great names in the modern art world. La Luz de Jesus helped to establish artists such as Manual Ocampo and Joe Coleman, and hosted Robert Williams' art exhibits before he became a household name.

The gallery opens a new exhibit every month, with an opening reception that Details Magazine calls "the biggest and best party in Los Angeles."

here is a great spot on the show!!!

a quick quote from the article:

“Everything But the Kitschen Sync”. This gigantic, no-theme exhibition will feature work from what we feel are some of the most relevant artists working today.

ok, I'm off to work! :)

CREATE IT FORWARD!!!

The first five (5) people to respond to this post will get something made by me.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations so please read carefully:

- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make.

- What I create will be just for you.

- It'll be done this year (2009). (unless you reply too late in the year)

- You have no clue what it's going to be. It will be something MADE BY HAND in the real world and not something cyber. It could be a mix CD or a poem or a painting. I might bake you something or send you some photographs I've taken. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure!

In return, all you need to do is post this text into a note of your own on facebook (and or blog) and make 5 things for 5 others.

PS I have also posted this on my facebook too so I will be taking the first five people that contact me and say an absolute "YES"
